5 MOST COMMON ERRORS BEGINNERS DO
Share
When it comes to starting your journey with pottery, there are common errors that beginners often make (and we certainly did), so let’s look together at the 5 usual ones so you can master the art of pottery in no time.
1. Don’t moisten the clay enough
It’s important to keep the clay wet. Not too much that it’s more liquid than solid, but don’t be afraid to moisten it, use the sponge to drop water onto your piece, or even plunge it in a bowl of water. It makes it easier for you to manage the clay and build your piece.
2. Don’t secure the remaining clay properly
After taking the clay you are going to use from the bag, make sure the rest is well secured back in our special aluminum bags. We make them specifically to keep our clay wet and perfect to use later.
3. You stress yourself too much about it
You are learning. You are at the beginning of a new hobby, and rest assure, you’ll love it. But give yourself the credit that you deserve. You have the courage to start something new and that is huge! Learn from your mistakes and have fun along the way.
4. You let your clay to dry in the sun
Although exposure to direct sun may accelerate the clay to dry, it can also make it crack during the process. We will explain to you how to fix the cracks when they happen and how to prevent them to happen in our next post.
5. You don’t wait until it’s fully dried
We all are impatient, and we want our pieces done, take pictures and just move on with our lives. Well with pottery you must be patient. We know we know. You can’t. Well, we are all here to learn, and we need to calm down and let the clay fully dry before painting and varnishing them.
With that being said, rest assure that you will make a lot of mistakes, and you will learn a lot about clay (and yourself) along the way. Let’s start, shall we?
